June 28, 2019
In "Creativity Is Key To Promoting Diverse Arbitrators, Lawyers," Law360 takes at look at the various approaches stakeholders are taking to accomplish the important goal of enhancing diversity in the field of dispute resolution internationally.
The article discusses moot competitions as one means of finding talented and culturally diverse practitioners and encouraging students to embark upon careers in dispute resolution, and cites CPR's international mediation competition--the only such competition to take place in Latin America--as one successful example.
Law360 also notes CPR's awarding of partial scholarships to some students participating in the competition, most recently the team from the University of Nairobi School of Law. which said the scholarships allowed them to make "very valuable connections" with fellow participants and judges. They added that the experience will "certainly impact the perception and practice of mediation in Kenya especially among the future generation still in universities."
Finally, Law360 notes the fellowship program CPR instituted with LCLD and FINRA, which offers training and mentorship to promising diverse candidates, with the goal of actual panel selection.
